Note that the webOS Doctor package comes with the following license:

RESTRICTIONS: The Software is licensed for use only with the single Palm device you originally purchased, and you may not distribute or make the Software available over a network or for use with multiple devices. The Software and supporting documentation may be copied only as necessary for backup or archive purposes in support of your use of the Software.

So we can't host different versions of it anywhere - the best we can do is record the md5sums of the versions we know about so that individuals can match this to the files they have for use with their Palm device.

Ajay: Recommendation: Remove "where to save uImage" from wiki page

I'm confused why there's a step listed "Copy the uImage to the novacom folder on your computer," this is definitely unnecessary, with the command listed it will work with the uImage being in the current directory. Tested only on linux so far, but hopefully commands would be able to work without having to have superuser access on the computer. You need a large-enough ext3fs partition created with Meta-Doctor mounted at /media/ext3fs (instruction how to create partition is available here [[Chrooting]]). Make sure you have the WebOS Internals Testing Feeds enabled. And remember that at this time, you will either need to have installed the Developer Beta Firmware or have access to a Bluetooth Keyboard. No virtual keyboard is available.

Using Preware, install Xecutah and Ubuntu 11.04 Chroot.

Hit the relevant buttons on Xecutah to run the XServer and the Ubuntu 11.04 Chroot.

Run XServer first, which will open an Xserver window, then return to Xecutah and tap Ubuntu 11.04 Chroot. When you return to the Xserver card, you should see a Ubuntu command prompt.

Use "apt-get install" to install whatever apps you like from Ubuntu. Then run in the Ubuntu chroot and render on the XServer.

Extract debsmall.img from debsmall.img.bz2 (use 7zip in windows or the bunzip2 from command line in linux) and copy it to your device. You can use WOSQI to send the file to /media/cryptofs. Using /media/cryptofs instead of /media/internal will avoid breaking USB connectivity.

Then using the WOSQI command line, resize the file: “resize2fs /media/cryptofs/debsmall.img 2000M” (must be less than 2048M).

Next, you must mount the new image file. Since, when using an image file, you may have to mount it again each time you do a full restart of the device (the image will stay mounted after a luna restart), you may want to create a script:

Using a text editor copy the following into a file and copy it to the device as, e.g., "/media/internal/mountscr.sh". (note that when using a program such as windows notepad, your line breaks may not stay in place correctly.)

Using a 2.0 doctor will wipe your usb partition, unless you already have 2.0 on your device. For example, 1.4.5 > 2.0.1 will wipe usb, but 2.0.0 > 2.0.1 will not.

I still have the mmap errors in my VirtualBoxed Ubuntu, running on the newest ArchLinux...

Couple of issues: 1) Maybe non-issue, but WARNINGs during "make" make it seem like other packages are necessary for full functionality? minor? guile-snarf (provided in guile-dev i believe) But others seem important: libsdl-dev most notably, & some audio/video codes I assume are important: libsmpeg, libvorbis-dev, libflac-dev, mikmod. 
2) error with pidgin, it doesn't seem to be pointing to the actual tarball with "curl -f -R -L -o ../../../downloads/pidgin-2.6.6.tar.bz2.tmp http://sourceforge.net/projects/pidgin/files/Pidgin/pidgin-2.6.6.tar.bz2" as I'm getting a html file as the downloaded item. ("bzip2: (stdin) is not a bzip2 file.") Ah, Tried the link in my web browser, it's broke. Here's a [http://voxel.dl.sourceforge.net/project/pidgin/Pidgin/2.6.6/pidgin-2.6.6.tar.bz2 link that works]. 
2a) Maybe this error's been fixed in a current revision of the repository? but I don't see the command to update the tree, is it possible to provide this info? (It's ended up taking me days to get this compiled on either of my computers for various reasons).

2011.02.24 - 12:07CST: I am mostly clueless about this, but one thing I thought was missing was the appropriate script to use for a 'plussed' Pre. For example, if someone has a Pre Plus running on Sprint, courtesy of WebOSWorld, should they proceed as if they have a Sprint Pre? I think so, just not sure... (I post as notcalvin on precentral) (Also, FANTASTIC wiki page, thank you very much, you have clearly spent a lot of time on this page alone, not to mention getting 2.x working on legacy hardware...)

20:09, 25 February 2011 (UTC): The Verizon Mobile HotSpot and VZ Nav work fine for me, so they should be included. skype.. provides mixed results so I don't know what to say about that atm. (I have gotten both texts and calls to work, both ways, but.. the service usually crashes at some point. right now it's unusable actually.. i almost feel like it worked better with old firmware) directions: I did a manual install of all these packages by mounting / rw, ipkg install <pkgname>.ipk.
